Hi Kimberly! Congratulations on starting this new journey. We all want to help you and we also want to teach you how to do your research. I'm sorry for your loss at such a young age. Now, it's important that you tell us EVERYTHING you can when you post. For example, asking for an obituary in a state the size of Texas (and with a trillion newspapers) probably won't get you much info. But if you ask about obituaries in the Houston area (see, I found out where your dad died), that gives us a place to start. Next, let me tell you what I found and I want you to try and find it also. There is a relatively new website by the Mormon Church (genealogy is a part of their religion) that has Texas death certificates from 1890 (there are very few of those) to 1976. Here's the website: http://search.labs.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html?..#w=;p=2;c=1320964;t=searchable I found both your grandfather's and grandmother's death certificate (type the name in the spaces provided). If you go to the actual image (the arrow screens) you will find all sorts of info. Their birthdays (your grandfather was a lot older than your grandmother), their date of deaths, their occupations, their addresses, their parents names their place of birth (did you know your grandfather was born in Alabama?), the cause of their deaths and where they are buried. This will give you a great place to start. If you put just the name of Acreman in the last name field, you will find some siblings of your grandfather. If you have trouble, post here again and I will give you the info. But I hope you will find that discovering it yourself is much more interesting than having some one else hand it to you. As to your Dad's obituary: the main newspaper in Houston is the Houstin Chronicle. Here is their website. http://www.chron.com/ That being said, your dad's obit is probably not online there--it's too old. But do a search for the Houston Public Library, find the address for the main library and either email or snail mail them a letter asking for a lookup of the obit for Kerry Darryell Acreman, date of death (DOD) Aug, 7, 1990. They may charge a fee, but if it is something you want very much, it's worth it. You could also go to the Harris County, Texas Genforum site (navigate by going to Counties in the upper left of the Texas page). You could post a query asking for a lookup of the obit. Some nice researcher might help you. But BE SURE and give the full name and the date of death when you post. And BE SURE and thank whoever looks it up for you. Now if you want to continue on this grand journey, post again with specific questions (how do I find [blank]? or where do I look for [blank]?) and we will take you through the next steps. Or if you want a GREAT crash course in genealogy, go to Ted Pack's website. Ted is a volunteer helper on Genforum (and SO funny!) and he has some great info about writing a good query, starting research for beginners, eetc, etc. It's a VERY good starting place. So, go to the death certificate site I gave you, and again, if you have problems, post again and I will give you all the info. All the best and Happy Hunting!
