Mr. Hogan came to Montague County as a baby with his mother, a pioneer settler of the Forestburg community. Here he spent his boyhood days, attending school at Forestburg. During early manhood, he spent some time in Tarrant and Denton counties. He was married to EVA REBECCA GRAHAM on Dec. 27, 1883 at old Kirkwood near Grapevine, Tarrant County, where he lived until 1890 when he moved back to Montague county, again settling near Forestburg. In 1895, he moved to the Mallard community and spent the remained of his life on the farm he purchased at the time. He was a devoted husband, a kind and affectionate father, and an obliging neighbor and friend. He was always ready to help with any work for the betterment of his community, being especially interested in the school. Since he grew up on the frontier during Indian times and being a pioneer himself, his ‘latch-string always hung on the outside,’ and his home furnished shelter and a night’s lodging to many a weary traveler on horseback and a camping place for many a covered wagon train bound for the ‘West.’ No one was ever turned away. He could never adjust himself to modern ways of living and always longed for the ‘Good Old Days.’ …
