I've gone through some of my stuff at home (am trying to come into the computer age and put alot of stuff on disc) and have a few answers: 1) Family tradition from the 1950's state that his father took the family to Texas for some unknown reason. Now I don't put all of my faith in family tradition, because it always has a bad memory, but another family tradition is that one of his cousins died in an old soldier's home in Richmond Virginia. a) Jabez Reed Rosser was the cousin, and he did fight in one of the Virginia units in the Civil War. b) The Commonwealth of Virginia bought land from the Robert E. Lee Camp # 1 of Confederate Veterans when the camp started becoming smaller as the soldier's died. There is a chapel and the headquarters building located on the Boulivard from that camp. c) The commonwealth used that land for the state art museum and the historical society, where the records of the camp, including Mr. Rosser's admission are kept and available to the public. So I have good reason to believe 3 biographies that he lived for a time in Texas. I also found his recommendation letter to Jefferson Davis, who was Secretary of War at the time (and a West Point grad if I remember correctly) for a position at the Acadamy. It is written by one of the senators (?) from the state of Texas. There is also an acceptance letter from West Point. The family lived in the area of Panola County, and one of General Rosser's daughter, Catherine, married someone from there. In my brief research I can find no more concrete information to the family tradition. that is what I am looking for. Notify Administrator about this message?
