Thanks, Joan -- haven't dealt with my genealogy for about four years, but someone just contacted me via the Missouri forum about a query I made those same years ago, and am now getting the bug to keep going. That person's comment had to do with that same Toothman family who had left in a hurry from WV (western Virginia) during the Civil War, and it was on their property in Missouri that the first Kansas Colored Regiment fought their first skirmish. They even renamed the farm Fort Africa. Google it; it's quite interesting. A Toothman even rode with Quantrill that included the James and Younger brothers. I knew that my kin hightailed it to Kaufman County after the war, but I have just have not actively sought to learn what happened to that branch of the tree. You may have just changed that. Still hoping that someone directly connected to that line will read my entries and get in touch. Maybe they will -- in perhaps four years. Thanks. Notify Administrator about this message?
