You should include names of counties, or in the case of LA parishes, it helps researchers.
You say they were running a boarding house in Merryville, that's Beauregard Parish, LA, but on the 1900 census the family is in Vernon Parish, LA. Have you looked for an obit for Samuel? If he was running a boarding house it would seem there should be an obit for him.

I'd look for an obit for Florence/Laura also. You just never know what will pop up in obits. There may be some mentionn of being predeceased by her husband and even when and where he died.
