Another great saying -- "If there hadn't been a Tennessee, there'd never been a Texas." Check out the room in the Alamo that has a state flag for each man who fought at the Alamo and you'll begin to understand that saying. Several of my Texas ancestors came from Tennessee, too. Some stopping once or twice along the way. One was there as early as 1838, others soon after.

I live in So CA, but know a little Texas history. LOL
