Margaret: According to Norinne Holder Holman's "170 Year of Cemetery Records in Milam County, Texas" the Conoley cemetery is called "Conoley Union Community Cemetery". It was revisited by Ms. Holman on May 18, 1999. This cemetery is still considered active, though in bad shape. Among the listings of burials there is a William Wright, CSA, GA headstone (stone on ground), and the dates 1840-1902. No other information was listed. Directions to the cemetery are as follows: The Conoley Union Community Cemetery is located in the southwest quadrant of Milam County, four miles from Thorndale on Farm to Market Road 486. To drive to the active cemetery from US Highway 79 at Thorndale, turn to the left onto FM 486 and continue four miles south to County Road 455 and turn to the left at the sign for the church and cemetery. Conoley was once a thriving rural community and named for Malcolm Campbell Conoley. He was a Presbyterian minister and a schoolteacher who came to the area in 1859. Only a church and cemetery remain today, however.
