Tydd is such an unusual name, it's always interesting to me to encounter another person with that name.

Our branch of the Tydd family emigrated from northern England (Appleby in Westmorland) around the turn of the 20th century. My grandfather, Frederic Valentine Tydd, and my grandmother, Elizabeth Ray, originally located in Winnipeg, Manitoba. In 1924, the family moved to Chicago, Illinois. My grandfather was the head painter at the new Stevens Hotel, at the time the largest hotel in the world, beginning in 1927. The family lived in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago, later relocating further south in the city and eventually in the southern suburbs. My grandfather and grandmother died in Dunedin/Clearwater, Florida. My father, Frederick William Tydd, was a painting contractor in Chicago and moved to Wisconsin upon retirement, where he and my mother, Madeline Cullen Tydd, died. My grandparents had 12 grandchilden, most of whom still live in the vicinity of Chicago.
