Thanks Bill. Are you related through Joshua Tye, or which of his children? For Tye, I have John Tye's estate papers, which was only an inventory, unfortunately, and the few deeds that they had in Whitley County.I still need to get the Knox County deeds.I think there will just be the initial grant or survey that John had.He did pay tax in Lincoln County, I think, in 1803 or so, and of course the county boundaries kept changing.
Anyway, if you're related through Joshua, the deed from John Tye to Joshua mentioned his affection for his son Joshua, so very nice proof of relationship there. My proof is that John Tye, Senior is listed as Jane Tye's father on her marriage record to James Blakely in Knox County.
Also, I'm one of those people who has tried to figure out whether the Maryland origin is correct or not. There actually isn't any proof of it at all, but there were several Maryland families in Whitley County--John's second wife Betsey Powers was from a Maryland family.BUT--JOhn's supposed Maryland grandfather didn't mention JOhn Tye in his will, although he mentioned his Tye grandchildren.More to be done.If you know anything about all that, please let me know.I will write to Whitley County.Gail
