Tye's of South Carolina (& Virginia)
I find all of these "Tye" discussions very interesting, and was wondering if anyone has thoughts on this:
James M. Tye (of Alabama) was born in South Carolina about 1819, per the 1880 Census when he stated his father was born in Virginia, his mother in South Carolina. If you check the 1820 Census, you find ONLY 1 Tye living in South Carolina, and that is JOHN TYE.1820 JOHN TYE was a middle aged man living with 5 sons (and a female between the age of 16-25, who I would guess to be a daughter), the sons ranging in age from (3) under the age of 10 - and (2) between 16-25.This John Tye (call him #1) was age 45 and over, so born before 1775.
By 1830 there 2 Tye's living in Abbeville, South Carolina….John (#2) and Daniel.Daniel Tye, born between 1791-1800, can be found in 1830 with his wife and 1 young son under age 5, so that child was too young to be James. But 1830 John Tye (#2) was born between 1781-1790, and did have 1 son born between 1816-1820, as well as 2 other sons.
I feel it entirely reasonable to have a working hypothesis that 1830 John (#2) was the father of James. Also reasonable to look into if "1830" John and Daniel were the sons of "1820" John (#1).
Does anyone have any thoughts on this? And is anyone working on the Tye's of Abbeville, SC?Any thoughts appreciated.
