Further to my previous message, I am thinking that maybe the Jans Jurig Scmidt family could be the ancestors of Mary Magdalena SMITH m. Michael R. UBER Sr. They were from Hempfield Tp., and there is a Jacob SMITH of the right age. Piecing together web and LDS sources:

Jans Jurig SCHMIDT, b: 1717 in Alsace-Lorraine d: January 16, 1756
+Catharina Schaeffer

Son: Philip SCHMIDT b: 1746 d: 1824 in Westmoreland Co., Pa.
+Catharina Ruch       b: Abt. 1756

Son: Jacob SMITH b: 1774 in Hempfield Tp., Westmoreland Co., Pa.
+Barbara LUDWIG       b: 1776 in Hempfield Tp., Westmoreland Co., Pa. m: 1797

So far, I have found one daughter listed for Jacob & Barbara: Mary Ann b. April 11 1801
