Hi George! My e-mail is krompier@rcip.com. I have a student that lives part time in Germany and she is the one that told me about the Ude name. As an example, she told me her class of 600 had 4 Udes in it. Granted, it could be the area that she goes to school in. I know for me that I haven't run into too many Uhdes(our families' spelling) here in CA. I did get an e-mail from another Ude who was actually from the area in Germany that my family is from. Don't know if there is a link and I never heard from her again. I think my same student told me that Ude means "coal-miner". I don't know if that is correct. I am working on so many lines and I forget sometimes to write everything down! Our Ude name changed once our ancestors got to the US. I have sent for the passenger records from the Nat'l Archives but haven't heard anything yet. Thanks! Janet
