A great many Leon people will remember GROTE UDELL, who years ago was the editor of this paper, afterwards going to Colorado for a number of years and finally returning to Centerville, where he now resides. The Iowegian of last Friday has the following:

GROTE UDELL was made happy on Wednesday by the receipt of the papers which grants him a pension of $72 per month for total disability. He is now, and has been for some years, paralyzed and only gets around in a wheel chair and is entitled to the full extent of the law in the way of a pension. He was orderly sergeant of Co. D, 6th Iowa Infantry and was shot seven times at the battle of Shiloh, several of the bullets passing entirely through his body. In addition to his wounds he laid on the field in the rain till the next day. He recovered and for years was able to go about his ordinary business but of late years the old wounds brought on paralysis and he has been totally disabled. His many friends will be glad to know that he has been finally remembered by the Government.
