Hi Eileen, From 'Lionel Udall & Abigail Bill, Stonington, Connecticut, Progenitors of one Udall/Udell America,' a Review by C. Melvin Bliven. [I have his contact data.] From Page 3 of 23 <excerpt> written by a great grandson, John Udell,3...Lionel Udall was an innkeeper and physician of Exeter, England, had a wife Anne and a young son Lionel; he left hurriedly, furtively, for America and arrived in Stonington; after learning of the death of his wife and child, he was a widower and married Abigail2 Bill in 1727 who is also without estabished antecedents. The accuracy of these statements is not known, is dependent on family lore. From Page 9 of 23 <excerpt> Lionel Udall is said, by Champlin,26 [I have this source] to have been a 'practising physician...in the first half of the eighteenth century...a man of considerable prominence...Dr. Lionael Udall left an account book containing listings of his patients from 1750 to 1767; <excerpt> From Page 10 of 23 <excerpt> Abigail Bill Udall has a gravestone in Queechee Cemetery, Windsor County, Vermont, graven 'In memory of Mrs. Abigail Udall Consort of the late Lional Udall who died May 1780 aged (blank)." Lionel and Abigail BILL UDELL or UDALL were my 6 maternal great grandparents. I descend through their daughter, Anne UDELL born 17 July 1728 Stonington, New London, CT m. Joshua BURCH, BURTCH or BIRCH. I have more information. Jan in VT <jnrose@webtv.net> Notify Administrator about this message?
