I found your grandfather on the 1930 census for Plymouth, Box Elder, UT. Here is how it is shown:
Melvin A. Udy 33, farmer
Phebe N. 31, wife
Melvin L. 11, son
John 9, son
Verl 5, son
Carl J. 3 11/12, son
Elma L. 1 6/12, daughter
All born in UT

Now if you go to www.familysearch.org you will find an ancestral file for Melvin A. Udy that will take you back 9 generations to the year 1587 in Luxulyan, Cornwall, England.
