Hi Tony and Sandra
Thanks for the interesting information. I have done some further checking. My dad was stationed at RAF Gloucester (RCAF Division). He travelled around alot by the looks of his diary. Unfortunately I don't have any diaries after Dec. 1943. He was in England until March 1946. His diary mentioned meeting Peggy who was Blackie's girlfriend along with a friend named Hilda in Nailsworth in Sept 1943. Gloucester looks to be around 60 miles from Berkshire. My husband is from England and he says that 60 miles was a long ways to someone from England, but someone from B.C. Canada it wasn't since things are so far apart here. My dad was dark haired and dark brown eyes, abour 5 foot 9 inches. Also my husband (a military buff himself, since his dad was a british paratrooper) told me that the 101st Airborne is army, not airforce. They did parachute & glider drops into enemy territory. That's why they were called Airborne. My mom told me many years ago that she believed I had a brother or sister in England because she found a letter my dad had kept from a woman in England who was having his child. However that's all I know and dad never spoke of it to me. He hardly ever would speak about the war. So this may all be coincedental, but who knows? I could email you a photo of my dad from during the war if you like to see if he looks familiar to anyone. I have always wondered if I had a brother and sister in England, but never thought I would ever come even close to finding out. I still would find it very surprising if their were two Don Udy's around that area at the same time ... but I guess stranger things have happened. I also checked US Military Records and there were several Udy's listed from WWII, but none of them had the name of Don. These records were taken from microfiche, so I guess there could be some transcription errors and not impossible for a name to be missing.
