Thanks for the quick response. John A. Uebel does not show up in Erie in the 1900 census. He does appear in the 1910 and 1920 censuses, with occupation listed as merchant running an art store. One of his children is shown as working at the store as a clerk in 1920 also. There is no listing for him in Erie in the 1930 census (nor in Pennsylvania...perhaps he moved back to NY)

The frame I have is not a particularly good example of a gilder's art...it is rather plain and much of the gilding has departed. When I get the chance, I'll take a photo and will contact you again. It would be helpful if I had your email address.

The census notes imply that the store he ran was operated as a gallery as well as a frame shop. Do you know anything about this?
