Hi Rucj, I am starting at the bottom of the Uffleman tree. My Great Grandfather was John Henry Uffelman (born in 1849 and died in 1921 in Erin, TN. His father was the Uffelman that immigrated from Germany I was told by my grandmother during an interview in the early '90s. Her mother's maiden name was Lois Agnes Uffelman from Erin, TN. There were more Uffelman's there as well. Charles Montgomery's interview with Paternal Grandmother Lura Agnes Boone Montgomery in the early 1990's: The Huffleman are German and he came to the US to escape the Prussian draft with which he disagreed strongly. He was 21 when he arrived in the US and initially settled in Rochester, PA where he married a woman (unknown name) that had been 'a servant for 13 years' (possibly to pay her passage and expenses to the US). This 'fact' was remembered by her, but the details weren't known. Lura Boone Montgomery said she has a picture of the unknown woman somewhere. [I'm in the process of trying to get my hands on that photo from my Dad (Dr. W.R. Montgomery). The Uffelmans dropped the "H", apparently a 2nd 'N' and moved west. Uffelman bought 300 acres on Wells Creek, TN that is near Erin, TN. I would appreciate any information if you can make a connection with your resources. I hope to hear from you. Thanks!
