Virginia,

There are other forums that deal directly with Family Tree Maker. You should go to http://genforum.genealogy.com/general/#computers and then click on one of the Family Tree Maker forums, such as the one for installation. There are a number of posts about Windows Vista, and Family Tree Maker does appear to run OK under Vista.

You should back up your genealogy files to ensure that you don't lose anything. The best way to back them up is to copy your FTW files to a flash memory stick. These are small drives that plug into the USB connector on your computer. You should be able to buy one for less than $20 from Best Buy, Circuit City, Target or Walmart.

If you are unsure how to do this you should get help from somebody that knows computers. You can then plug the flash memory stick into another computer and copy the file to that computer.

Good Luck,
Dave Hein
