I've been working on my husband's family history. His grandfather was Sidney Ulfelder, a doctor, who went from New York City (his birthplace) to Mexico City in the late 1890's. He was instrumental in the establishment of the American Hospital in Mexico City. His parents Henry (Heinrich)Ulfelder and Antoinette (Donah) Lowenstein had each immigrated to New York from Nuremberg, Germany, he in 1852, she in 1853. They met and married in New York City and there had eight children (Sarah -- ca 1856, Jesse [or Lester] -- ca 1860, Celia -- ca. 1862, Oskar -- ca. 1864, Leo -- ca. 1866, Milton -- ca. 1868, Rosetta -- ca. 1871, and Sidney July 11, 1875.) Henry was a tailor. In 1880 the census shows them living at 935 65th Street, in 1900 they owned and lived in the house at 335 65th Street (unless the census takers made a mistake and they were in either 335 or 935 the entire time -- the numbers seem oddly similar). I am quite anxious to gather more information about the family and will be delighted to share what I have found.
