John BARKER - 1824 - BARROW EN FURNACE

I am searching for both ancestors and descendants of GEORGE BARKER (b. abt 1800). George was from a family of twelve brothers, eleven of whom left their native England. He was a machinist by trade. George married MARGARET WALKER and they lived at the home of his ancestors BARROW EN FURNACE, a seaport town of England. Their children are John, Sarah, Elizabeth and Mary.

JOHN, son of George Barker, born 1824 at BACK BARROW, England, studied to be a machinist in Scotland. Completing his apprenticeship in 1850 at the age of 25, he left England and sailed to Charleston, South Carolina with a cotton manufacturer.

In 1868, John inherited money from his uncle, John Walker in England, with the stipulation that he return to the homeland. He sailed on the ship "City of Antwerp". John returned to his home in North Carolina and died March 17, 1884.

If you have knowledge of my ancestor or if you can offer me any information you may contact me at cbmmjm20@novagate.com

Regards.....Charlotte
