Anna,

Actually I traced another line to Antonio de Ulibarri.

Juan Antonio Ortega married Maria Inez Ulibarri in Santa Fe in 1799. They moved to the Belen area in about 1809. Maria Inez was the daughter of Fernando de Ulibarri who was the son of Antonio de Ulibarri and Antonia Teresa Rael de Aguilar. Juan Antonio Ortega & Maria Inez Ulibarri - Jose Antonio Ortega - Anselmo Ortega - Francisco Ortega - Pedro Duplido Ortega - Jonathan A. Ortega.

In Herencia Vol. 4 Issue #2 (1996) Gerald Mandell states that a Juan de Ulibarri (a mulato) was baptized at San Luis Potosi on March 8, 1670. He was the son of Maria de Ulibarri the unmarried mulata slave of dona Maria de Ulibarri. This is probably the Juan de Ulibarri who has been confused with Sargento Mayor Juan de Ulibarri who died in Mexico City on October 28, 1716.

Jonathan
