Ulibarri Family Genealogy Forum

This is an interesting question. I asked my Dad what his ethnicity is and he has always told me Spanish. Of course, he grew up in Nothern NM where all of his friends called each other Chicanos. ( he hates the political meaning to that word now )
Here is my take on it: Since I am only a quarter Ulibarri ( actually less than that if you really think about it ) I really can't call myself Basque or European. ( although I have Basque blood through my Maestas line ) Also, I am of the new hispanic generation that doesn't speak Spanish ( my parents did not do this on purpose, although I have heard of families forcing their children to speak only English ) So, where does that leave me?
I call myself...Latino. I am the sum of my parts. I am Ulibarri, Gutierrez, Quintana, Maestas, and all the other names in my tree.
So, I guess it's up to each of us to decide for themselves
