Hello Janet:
Nice to hear from you. Charles Ulm was born in Albert Park (South Melbourne) in 1898. His 4 siblings were also born in the Melbourne area - Emile Paul Victor Ulm, 1889; Gordon Adrien Frederick, 1894; John Albert Edward, 1902; Marie Desiree, 1904. So clearly Charles was not a brother of your Bruno. But was his father?
Charles's father was Emile Gustav Ulm, who, according to his 1888 Melbourne marriage certificate was born in Paris about 1863. His father was Emile Victor Frederick Ulm. We don't have anything concrete about Emile snr's birth place. A Canadian on-line art gallery (art of the print) which offered an etching of his for sale, gave his place of birth as Rochefort, in Charente-Maritime in France, but a study of those parish registers has not found his birth. He married a second time in Adelaide, South Australia in 1884, giving his age as 44, indicating his birth year to be about 1840.
Clearly, we can't say for sure that Emile snr and jnr were born in France. I have always suspected the possibility that Emile snr was originally from Germany.
Can you refer me to a site where I can study your Ulm tree? (Perhaps we can find a connection with your Bruno). Or can you send me your tree, as a gedcom or in 'word' format? Our Ulm tree is on I can send it to you as a gedcom or in 'word' format. I have a pdf version too. I will need your email address. Mine is:
Best wishes,
