Last Will & Testament of Phebe M. (Mrs. John Ulrich, 1839-1906), Watsontown, PA

Here is the Will of Phoebe M. Ulrich, deceased (she died on 3 March 1906).

I, Phoebe Ulrich, of the Borough of Watsontown, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania, being of sound mind, memory, and understanding, do hereby make and publish this my last will and testament, hereby revoking and making void all former wills my me at any time heretofore made, and First: -- I direct the payment of all my just debts and funeral expenses. Second: -- As to such estate as it has pleased God to entrust me with, I dispose of the same as follows, to wit: In as much as my daughter, Mrs. Ella Becker, has for years contributed much to the comfort of myself and household and expended considerable money in and about my home, which we have enjoyed, I do hereby give, bequeath, and devise unto her, my said daughter, Mrs. Ella Becker all my property, real, personal, and mixed, to have and to hold, the same to her and her heirs and assigns forever, provided nevertheless that it is my wish and my will that my husband, John Ulrich, should he survive me, shall have the use of my home and my furniture, provided he lives a good and sober life, properly cares for the property, by the keeping up of needed repairs, pays insurance and taxes and the fixed charges. Third: I do hereby nominate, constitute and appoint my said daughter, Mrs. Ella Becker sole executrix of this my last will and testament and I do hereby authorize her to sell my real estate at either public or private sale, and to execute and deliver to the purchaser or purchasers thereof proper deeds in fee simple for the same.

In witness whereof, I Phoebe Ulrich, testatrix, have to this my last will and testament, set my hand and seal this 12th day of December AD 1905.

Signed, sealed, published and declared by the above named Phoebe Ulrich as and for her last will and testament in the presence of us who, at her request, have hereunto set our hands as witnesses thereto, in the presence of the said testatrix and of each other.

Be it Remembered, that on this19th day of March, A.D. 1906, before me, The Register for the Probate of Wills and Granting of Letters of Administration in and for said County, personally appeared Wm. F. Shay and Wm. L. Baker, the subscribing witnesses to the foregoing instrument of writing purporting to be the last Will and Testament of Phoebe Ulrich, late of the Borough of Watsontown, County and State aforesaid, deceased, who being duly sworn according to law do declare and say that they were personally present at the execution of the same and saw and heard the testatrix therein named, sign, seal, publish, pronounce and declare the same as and for her last Will and Testament, and that at the time of so doing she was of sound disposing mind, memory, and understanding, to the best of their knowledge and belief.

Be it Remembered, That on this 19th day of March, A.D. 1906, before me was proved, approved, and insinuated in due and Common form of law the last Will and Testament of Phoebe Ulrich, late of the Borough of Watsontown, County and State aforesaid, deceased, who died on the 3rd day of March, A.D. 1906, And that Letters Testamentary, with a copy of the Will annexed, were granted unto Mrs. Ella Becker, the executrix therein named.

[n.b. In the 1880 and 1900 US Census for Watsontown, Northumberland County, PA, the family of William L. BAKER (Constable in 1880, Carpenter in 1900) lived next door to or two doors away from the household of John and Phoebe ULRICH. William F. SHAY lived further away and was a local attorney.]
