James H. "Red" Umberger
James H. "Red" Umberger, 86, of Wytheville, Va., died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003, at his residence.
Funeral service was held Sunday, Nov. 30, at 8 p.m. at the Gillman Funeral Chapel, Wytheville, Va. A graveside service was held Monday, Dec. 1, at 11 a.m. at the Lebanon Lutheran Church Cemetery.
He was a son of the late Lefley Harlow and Minnie Corvin Umberger.
He is survived by his wife, Laura Sexton Umberger; a daughter and a son-in-law, Mary U. and David A. Jonas; fours sons and daughters-in-law, James H. and Linda Umberger, Charles T. and Carol Umberger, Lefley W. and Iretta Umberger, and Kenneth G. and Joan Umberger; 11 grandchildren, Ronnie Umberger, Teresa James, Charles Umberger Jr., Diane Wright, Stephanie Umberger, Deborah J. McCormick, Robin J. Crom, Darren Umberger, Devin Umberger, Lucas Umberger and Gregory Jonas; and 13 great-grandchildren, Lauren James, Craig James, Megan James, Haley Umberger, Charles Travis Umberger III, Hunter Umberger, William Umberger, Allie Jonas, Charles Crom, Matthew Crom, Olivia Umberger, Cody Umberger and Kaitlyn Umberger.
Gillman Funeral Chapel in Wytheville, Va., was in charge of the arrangements.

Douglas MacArthur Umberger
Douglas MacArthur Umberger, 60, of Max Meadows, Va., died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, in the Wythe County Community Hospital, Wytheville, Va.
Funeral service will be held Friday, Dec. 5, at 8 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Home Chapel in Wytheville, Va., with the Rev. Clayton Hounshell officiating. Graveside service will be held Saturday, Dec. 6, at 11 a.m. in the New Bethel Cemetery.
He was born Aug. 14, 1943, in Wythe County, Va.
He was preceded in death by his father, Dewey L. Umberger./////brother of James "red" above////
Survivors include his wife, Alice Umberger of Max Meadows, Va.; his mother, Mary Lucille Umberger of Wytheville, Va.; two stepsons, Michael Peak and David Peak, both of Max Meadows, Va.; one stepsister, Tracy Ayers of Max Meadows, Va.; three stepgrandchildren and one great-stepgrandchild.
The family will receive friends Friday, Dec. 5, from 6 to 8 p.m. (service time) at Barnett Funeral Home or any time at the residence of Alice Umberger, Brock Avenue, Max Meadows, Va., or at the residence of Mary Umberger, West Monroe Street, Wytheville, Va.

Eula Martha Umberger Orfield
Eula Martha Umberger Orfield, 90, of Wytheville, Va., died Monday, Nov. 24, 2003, in Asbury Place at Wytheville, Va.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, Nov. 26, at 2 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Home Chapel in Wytheville, Va., with the Rev. Ronald E. Umberger officiating. Interment will be in West End Cemetery, Wytheville, Va.
She was born Dec. 25, 1912, in Wythe County, Va. She was a member of the St. Luke Lutheran Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Lee Orfield; her parents, Stuart R. and Minnie Bowles Umberger; four brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Louise and Mark Babcock of Wytheville, Va.; a son and daughter-in-law, Charles R. and Aileen Crigger of Pulaski, Va.; a stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, Don and Imogene Orfield of Wytheville, Va.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, Nov. 25, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Home.
