Much work has been done on the Updegraff family in recent years and I have updated my file (as below). So much information on the internet is difficult to credit properly and I have tried to indicate sources where possible. There are still difficulties with the account given and I would love to have any corrections/additions. Richard Sylvanus Williams (an Updegraff descendant in England).

On 6 October 1683, the following emigrants landed in Pennsylvania withtheir families: Hermann Isaaks op dem Graef, Abraham Isaaks op dem Graeff, Dirk Isaaks op dem Graeff, Reiner Theissen, Johan Lucken, Tonis Kunders, Abraham Tunes, Johann Lenssen, Johann Simons, Leonard Arets, Wilhelm Strepers, Johannes Bleickers, Peter Kurlis [?SOURCE]
The share of the op den Graef brothers in Germantown was about 800 acres of the 2,000 acres they had purchased from Telner, the residue of which was located in Dutch Township. Abraham op den Graef added some tracts to his own share through purchases and inheritance and he eventually sold most of his land in Germantown, deeding some to his children who divided the remainder after his death. By 1697 he had acquired 100 acres in Germantown, out of which he gave as a gift 50 acres, along with 30 acres of his original purchase, to his married daughter, GERTIEN ADAMS. In 1701 he received 195 1/2 acres from the estate of his deceased brother Dirck and in the following year he paid £105 for another 50 acres for £60 to his neighbor, Joseph Shippen, to whom he had already sold another adjoining 50 acres for £105 in 1707. Over the first two decades of settlement op den Graef also divested himself of three additional Germantown lots, totaling over 150 acres. In 1709, several years after op den Graef had moved to the Perkiomen region and probably after the death of his wife, he deeded 300 acres in the Dutch Township to his daughter Margaret and her husband Thomas How with the provison that they provide for him for the restof his life. In another part of this same deed or agreement, it states that after Abraham died, the 530 acres descended to his children and names them - Isaac, Jacob and Margery wife of Thomas Howe and Anne wife of Herman In de Hofen.

NOTE: There is a shortage of documentary evidence for Isaac Updegraff c1680-?1745 and it is not proven that he was the son of Abraham. He is generally shown as having 5 sons and 1 (or 2) daughters but this parentage does not appear to be documented, so that although Herman, Derick and Peter (below) are almost certainly brothers they cannot certainly be said to be sons of Isaac (or grandsons of Abraham)

Isaac Updegraff (also spelled Op den Graef) was born circa 1678 in probably Krefeld, Germany. He is not listed as a passenger on the ship CONCORD as he was under the age of 12 in 1683, and as such was counted only as half a "freight." After their arrival in Germantown, Isaac and his brother Jacob attended the Pastorius school. In 1731, Isaac inherited one-fourth of his father's 530 acres (132.5 acres) in what is now Montgomery County, Pennsylvania (Ref: Phila. D.B. C, No. 2, Vol. 3, p. 95.) It would appear that this was about the time that Isaac was preparing to leave for Coventry Township in Chester County, Pennsylvania, as his name appears in the Coventry Township's tax list in 1732, 1734, and 1735. His name is found spelled Uptigrave, Updegraft, and Updegraff on these tax lists. He was referred to by many as "Isaac of Coventry." (Ref: Name index to Chester County Tax Lists - 1699-1758 & 1775-1783, & Gilbert Cope's Collection) Isaac was employed by the Potts family at their ironworks at Pine Forge and Colebrookdale. Isaac and his son, Jacob, crossed the Schuykill River to Chester County where Samuel Nutt was making iron at Coventry in partnership with William Branson and Mordecai Lincoln, the great, great grandfather of President Abraham Lincoln. One of the very earliest iron works in this country was the "Coventry Forge" established in 1716. This forge ran a sort of general store, selling and buying many things to and for families for many miles around. The furnace store ledgers called the "Pott's Manuscripts" are in the possession of the Chester County Historical Society and at one time was in the possession of Governor Samuel W. Pennypacker (and Updegraff descendant), and historian and geneaologist of long ago. The ledgers are a very valuable source of information. Isaac Updegraff had and account with the Potts from 1732 to 1745. Isaac died in August 1745. He married his wife Mary on possibly April 29, 1712. [Note: Information published in 1988 indicates, Isaac's year of death, 1745, was on his gravestone in the Mennonite Cemetery in Skippackville. The stone had long since disappeared but letters from earlier genealogists had described it in detail.] [INTERNET]

NOTE: On the death of Derick Updegraff (1738) his brother Herman (and Herman's brother-in-law Richard Lowden) appear in connection with the guardianship of Derick's family indicating perhaps a close relationship. In 1758 Herman appoints his cousin [probably meaning nephew] Joseph an executor, making it most probable that Joseph (below) was the son of Derick.
