Otis UPSHAW (March 21, 1913 > March 4, 2000) buried Washington County, Texas
I took photographs of the headstones and grave markers I came across in a Washington County, Texas cemetery (located between Brenham, TX and Burton, TX). One of these headstones was marking the graves of Otis UPSHAW. (The photos are posted on http://www.findagrave.comhttp://www.findagrave.com)
This is the information on the headstone and marker:
OTIS UPSHAW
TEC 5 US ARMY
WORLD WAR II
Mar. 21, 1913
Mar. 4, 2000
and
OTIS UPSHAW
Mar. 21, 1913
Mar. 4, 2000
Although I took the GPS coordinates (N 30 10.003 / W 096 34.206), when I used them on Mapquest the "star" showed up about 25 miles from the cemetery. I hope to double check the coordinates when I next visit that area in the future.
ABOUT THE CEMETERY:
There are no signs indicating that this is a cemetery. I found it by accident and photographed all of the graves that have headstones or markers [these and the other surnames are posted on http://www.findagrave.com]http://www.findagrave.com], however it looks very much like several graves no longer have headstones or markers. I could be wrong, but it looks like the cemetery may have been affected by floods and some of the headstones and markers may have washed away.
This cemetery is located on Old Mill Creek Road between Brenham, TX and Burton, TX. To get to this cemetery from Burton, Texas, drive about 1 to 1.5 miles east on Hwy 290 Old Mill Creek Road. Turn right on Old Mill Creek Road and drive about 1.2 - 1.4 miles. Look toward the right. The burial site is about 100 feet from the road. There are no signs to indicate that this is a cemetery. It is easily accessable.
There is also another Cemetery on the left when you first turn onto Old Mill Creek Road. I have not yet visited that cemetery.
I am not an UPSHAW researcher
