I have been reading the Urwin messages with great interest. I only started researching my family earlier this year.
My grandparents were Alexander WALTON and May FISHER married in Morpeth NBL in 1914.
May's parents were John FISHER and Ellen URWIN. Their marriage certificate states:
John Fisher married Ellen Urwin on 15 December 1883 in parish church in Byker, Newcastle-on-Tyne. John was 30 and his occupation was Brass Founder (Moulder). Ellen states her age as 20 but I believe she was younger than this. Her father was George Wales URWIN and she describes him as an engineer. In my research I have found a George URWIN b.1840 but his middle name is spelled WAILES not Wales.
In the 1891 census John and Ellen are living in Byker and her age is 25. In the 1901 census Ellen and children are living in Gateshead but no sign of husband John. Her age in 1901 census is 34 (b1867) so I think she was more likely to have been about 16 when she married in 1883.
Loking for Ellen Urwin's birth I have found on 1881 census an URWIN family at Old Rows, Collierley, Durham. Father George, mother Mary Ann, 8 children. Ellen is 3rd child, age 14 in 1881 and born Heworth, Durham. Also father described as Coalminer not Engineer.
This is as far back as I have gone so far. I hope someone can help me with my Urwin ancestors.
