While researching my family, Seward, I found that in 1850 the mother, Sarah, had disappeared. Living in that household at that time near Queenstown in Queen Anne's County was Mary Husselton and three children James, Sallie and ?? Not knowing where they came from, I looked back to 1840 census and found Aquilla and Mary Husselton and the children living in that same area.
Aquilla was a common name around Kent Island in those days. There were several people with that name and I can even remember one person in my own time with that name.
You can check this out on the QA Co census at the library in Centreville. The head of the household was George Seward my grgrgrandfather. Also in the household was Samuel Seward my grgrandfather.
I believe that the Husselton children took the last name Seward, and this is only a presumption I am going on now, because I know some of the decendants of James and Sallie Anne. They have fair complexions and reddish hair--not at all like the Seward families. I have no proof of this fact...just another piece of the puzzle.
Genealogy is a puzzle in itself. My grandfather, after telling everyone all his life that he lived around Queenstown and Kent Island, in the 1870 census said he was born in Indiana!!! Go figure. Good luck
