Edward Ulysses Cohea service in Mexican war

Oh silly me, I forgot to mention his name was Edward Ulysses Cohea. He was born in Jackson, Hinds, Mississippi in 1829 and died in San Francisco in 1869. Did he by chance serve in California in the war?
Thanks much,
Dana
