I am trying to determine (if possible) the children of William and Rhoda (Clark) East. William was a son of Thomas and Obedience East, born about 1780 in Virginia. They married in Charlotte Co., Va. abt. 1800.
I have found that some genealogists believe that James East who married Judith Burchfield in 1832 in Pittsylvania Co., Va. was a son of theirs. Others believe that Benjamin East who married Ann Eliza Noell in 1837 was a son of theirs.
I have looked at the 1820 census and have found only one William listed in Charlotte Co. In that census it states that he had at least 7 children. I then looked at information found on Susan Sasak Shields' website (thank you Susan!) which has "East Marriage Records - Va." which was submitted by Ernie East (thank you Ernie!) in it, I found 6 individuals married in Charlotte Co. between 1826 and 1846. They were: Eliza East who married Harrison Cumbee in 1826; Thomas East who married Mary Roach in 1827; William East who married Mary Haskins in 1834; Benjamin East who married Ann Eliza Noell in 1837; Mary East who married William Smith in 1842; and Grief E. East who married Sarah E. Walker in 1846.
James East, who, as mentioned above, has been thought to be William's son, married Judith Burchfield (or Birchfield) in 1832 in Pittsylvania Co.
I admit a very great amount of assumption is at play here, the first being that William and Rhoda stayed in Charlotte Co. and that this indeed was William, son of Thomas and Obedience East.
In tracking down the children mentioned above, I wonder if anyone has come across verified parentage for them, or any clues that may help me?
