Susan,
I was looking in the records today at Charlotte Court House and did find Stephen J, Williams mentioned several times but nothing on his marriage. The following comes from the hand written records for marriages:
19 Feb. 1845 - John Lester to Rebecca Williams, Dau of Stephen Williams, surety Stephen J. Williams, married 20 Feb. 1845.
I will be back there sometime next week and will see if anything else comes to light. If you have anything that might be helpful in the search post it here. I will check the site before I go back.
