Shelley: During the time of reconstruction, c 1869, the Freedman's Bureau did was is called a Cohabitation List in some places. This listed the first census of former slaves and their families. It listed the male, his age, his last owner-his wife, her age, last owner, and any children they had.
Check in with Handley Regional Library and see if a Cohab list was done for Winchester or Frederick County. There was a Baalis Davis in the Clarke/Warren area who owned slaves, so try his info also.
