I'm compiling information about the Henry Brooke Gilpin and wife Harriet Newcomer "Hattie" Gilpin branch of the tree. Henry Brooke Gilpin married Hattie Newcomer, daughter of Benjamin F. Newcomer, president of the Baltimore Safe Deposit and Trust Company, on 27 October 1886. After marrying, Henry and Hattie moved to the Kentmere estate around 1895. Between 1908 and 1911, they purchased about 300 acres adjoining Kentmere and built Scaleby. Both are near Boyce, Virginia 22620, along Clarke County Route 723 (also known as Millwood Pike). Their three children were Donald (b. 1887), Kenneth Newcomer (1890-1947), and Dorothy.
I welcome inquiries, as well as hearing from anyone who may have information about Hattie's philathropic interests and generous donations for community facilities at Millwood, Boyce, and Winchester, Virginia. I can also be reached at f_scheer@yahoo.com
Likewise, I am interested in other family information that can be linked to the Shenandoah Valley Railroad or Norfolk & Western Railway station at Boyce, which is now home of the Railway Mail Service Library. The depot was constructed in 1913 and paid for by locally donated funds. The benefactor(s) are unidentified, which I would like to change. Likewise, recollections about the station or photos of the building or immediate surrounding area are desired.
