Census/Magisterial Districts in Clarke Co.

I have had many people ask me about areas of Clarke they read about in census/newspapers, etc. I thought that giving researchers the knowledge on how Clarke was divided up would help them orient themsleves while researching.
The 4 magisterial districts in CC were: Battletown (NE Quadrant of Clarke); Long Marsh (NW Quadrant of Clarke); Greenway (SW quadrant includes White Post) & Chapel (SE quadrant of Clarke includes Millwood). These Eastern districts go East to the county line so they included the mountain E of the river also. Roughly the district lines follow Rt 340 NS & Rt 7 EW. There are some townships within those districts, but that will give you a basic orientation as to which section of the county you need to look in. Then you need to check the neighbors to hone in on a smaller area. Hope this helps. Mary Morris, Archivist, CCHA
