The following may be the generation before your two members of the Hicks family. The following information is sourced to Fauquier Families 1759-1799, by John P. Alcott. Note: You may find it useful to also trace the name "Hix", which appears at least once in Fauquier records. Hicks, Isaiah. Taxed 1789-92 in Northwest tax district 1795-1997 in same tax district, but his tax was paid by Kimble (presumably Hicks) 1799 in same tax district. He paid his own tax Lease recorded in Fauquier Deed Book 13, page 63., 1792. Lease in Manor of Leeds for lives of him and brothers Israel and Stephen Hicks source FF page 169 Hicks, Israel 1799 Paid own tax in Northwest tax district. source FF page 169 Hicks/Hix, Kimble 1772 Thomas Middleton and Anne Micddleton sell 215 acres of land, on which they resided, near Ashbys Gap, which was part of 630 acres which had been purchased from the trustees of George Carter. This 215 acres appeared on the Rent Roll of Landowners owing quitrent to Lord Fairfax in 1777. source: FF page 245 1778 Paid own tax in Northeast Tax District 1781-1799 In 1781 he was still in the Northeast District. In 1799 he was in the Northwest District. It is unclear when the change was made. The boundaries of his tax district may have just been shifted. It is possible that he did not personally move. 1780 He was assigned the task of surveying the road from Ashbys Gap to Crooked Run. source: Fauquier Minute Book 5, page 480, 1780 (Comment: Ashbys Gap is in the northwest corner of Fauquier near Paris. It is where Rte 50 crosses the Blue Ridge. Crooked Run is a stream that rises on the eastern slope of the Blue Ridge south of Paris near the junction of Snowden Rd (Rte 688) and Rte. 17.
