I found this info in a book titled "The Foothills of The Blue Ridge in Fauquier County, Virginia," compiled and edited by Clara S. McCarty. The deed between Henry C. Stribling and Rebecca,wife and the trustees of the Methodist Episcopal Churh South is submitted as reord of the beginning of the church at Hume ....
"This deed made the 29th day of September, 1898, between Henry C. Stribling and Rebecca P. his wife parties of the first part and W.k. Haley, M.M. Creel, S.F. Ball, R. W. Whittington, and James R. Green parties of the second part. Whitnesseth that the said parties of the first part, for and in consideration of thirty-seven dollars, to them in hand paid, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, do give, convey ... with warranty ...all that certain track and parcel of land lying and being Hume ...bonded as follows. Beginning at a point in the middle of the road leading from Hume to Marshall, thence ....
The date is not the same and I doubt if it is still there because of Route 66. You can check with the Historical Society in Marshall, VA. I am sure they can help you. Barb
