James Bishop (1801-1864) of Fauquier Co. VA

We would appreciate any information that you can provide about James Bishop (1801-1864) of Fauquier Co. VA, his wife Mary (Polly) Glascock (1810-1874), and their children and other descendents. Please also provide corrections to any information below that might be inaccurate.

James Bishop was born Jun. 1801 in Fauquier Co. VA, the son of Daniel Bishop and Nancy Ann Lake. James Bishop died 4 Jan. 1864 of heart disease at his home in Salem (now Marshall) Fauquier Co. VA.

A marriage bond was issued for James Bishop and Mary (Polly) Glascock on 11 Dec. 1827 in Fauquier Co., VA. The bondsman was Polly’s father Hezekiah Glascock. Polly and James were first cousins. James’ father, Daniel Bishop, and Polly’s mother, Edith Bishop Glascock, were brother and sister.

Polly Glascock was born circa 1805-1810 and died in 1874 in Ralls Co. MO.

The children of James Bishop and Polly Glascock were:

1. Sarah Jane Bishop was born 1830-1831 in Fauquier Co. VA. She is living with her brother William in Saline Township Ralls Co. MO in 1880. We need to know if she ever married, if she had any children, when she died, where she was buried, and any other interesting information.

2. William Dorsey Bishop was born 12 Aug. 1832 in Fauquier Co. VA. He died 2 Jul. 1901 in Ralls Co. MO. He migrated from Fauquier Co. VA to Ralls Co. MO with his maternal uncle Henry Glasscock prior to Jul. 1857. He married Mary E. Neal in Marion Co. MO 3 Apr. 1862. She was born circa 1833 in Marion Co. MO, the daughter of James Neal and Elizabeth Hornback. Both of her parents were born in KY. The children of William D. Bishop and Mary E. Neal were:

a. James Henry Bishop, born Mar. 1863 in Ralls Co. MO; died 19 Jul. 1919 in Marion Co. MO; buried Hydesburg Church Cemetery Ralls Co. MO; married Emma C. Woods on 1 Jan. 1886 in College Mound, Macon Co. MO. She was born 5 Jun. 1861 in Pea Ridge AR. She died 13 Dec. 1943 and is buried in Newport AR. James Henry Bishop was a minister and a teacher. James and Emma Bishp had the following children:

i. Arch Bayne Bishop, born 10 Jan. 1887 in College Mound, Macon Co. MO; died 2 Feb. 1926 in TX; married 3 Mar. 1913 to Elma Laura Tuttle in San Antonio, Bexar Co., TX.
ii. William Calvin Bishop, born 11 May 1889 in MO; died Dec. 1969 in Denver CO; married 22 Jul. 1918 to Fannie Inez Poynter.
iii. Carrie Valentine Bishop, born 14 Feb. 1891 in MO; died 1985 in CO; married 2 Mar. 1911 to Alonzo Hill Porter.
iv. James Howard Bishop, born 14 Apr. 1893 in Hannibal MO; died 12 May 1961 near Petroskey MI; buried in Culver Masonic Cemetery, Culver, IN. He was married (1st) on 11 Mar. 1922 in Chicago IL to Winifred Lee Hamilton. Did they have any children? He was married (2nd) to Mabel R. ???. We need her last name and more information about her. Did they have any children? James Howard Bishop received an A. B. degree in Latin and Greek in 1915 at age 22 from Hendrix College in Conway AR and enrolled at Oxford (Balliol College) in 1916. With his degree still incomplete, he joined the British Army in 1917 as a lieutenant and served in India, East Africa, and Mesopotamia. In 1919, he returned to Oxford to complete his B.A. and acquire an M.A. in 1921. Later that year, he became a teacher at Culver Military Academy in Culver IN and later became Chairman of the History Department. He became involved with tennis and is regarded as the father of the Junior Davis Cup competitions. He was a 17-year executive committee member of the U.S. Lawn Tennis Association and Chairman of the Junior Davis Cup and Davis Cup selection committees. He achieved national prominence as President of the Untied State Lawn Tennis Association 1953-55. He retired in 1958. During a trip to Michigan in 1961 with his wife Mabel, he was killed when a tire on their car blew out and the car swerved off of the road near Petroskey MI.
v. John Anderson Bishop, born 21 Aug. 1895 in MO; died 1928 in PA; married 3 Jul. 1925 to Cornelia Elizabeth Thomas. The couple had no children.
vi. Frances Willard Bishop, born 11 Mar. 1898 in MO; died 1930 in KS; married 5 Sep. 1921 to Guy Arthur Crawford. He was born circa 1886 in England and his parents were born in England. The couple had no children.
vii. Neal Dow Bishop, born 18 Jul. 1900 in MO; died May 1980 in CO; married 23 Feb. 1929 to Emma Sue Alexander; lived in Arapahoe Co. CO.

b. Mary Ashby Bishop, born July 1865/66 in MO. She died in 1917. (Did she ever marry or have any children?)

3. Margaret A. Bishop, born circa 1835-37 in Fauquier Co. VA. She married Albert L. McAllister in Marion Co. MO 14 Feb. 1874. She is living in Saline, Ralls Co. MO in 1880 with children Mary A. McAllister, Dora G. McAllister, and Rufus McAllister.

4. Catherine Bishop, born 1838-39 in Fauquier Co. VA. Eliza (?) married Preston Turner?

5. Marietta Bishop was born 1840-43 in Fauquier Co. VA. She married John P. Wilson (b. ca. 1830) on 2 Dec. 1869 in Ralls Co. MO. She appears to have died between 1874 and 1880 because John has a 25 year wife named Lizzie in 1880 and two children aged 8 and 6.

6. Harvey Burton Bishop was born 28 Apr. 1841 in Fauquier Co. VA. He died 31 Mar. 1918 in LaBelle, Lewis Co., MO. On 1 Apr. 1918 he was buried in LaBelle Cemetery, LaBelle Co. MO. He served in Co. H 6th VA Cavalry 1861-1865. After the war, he moved to MO and was living in Saline Township Ralls Co. MO in 1880. His wife Julia ??? was born in IN circa 1845. Her father’s birthplace was VA and her mother’s birthplace was IN. She died 26 Apr. 1929 in Fulton, Callaway Co. MO. She was buried at Wyaconda MO. According to the 1900 census, she gave birth to four children and only one is still living in 1900 (Frank S.).

a. Edgar Bishop, born circa 1873 in MO 4 He died prior to 9 Jun. 1900.

b. Ora Bishop (female), born circa 1876 in MO. 4 She died prior to 9 Jun. 1900.

c. Frank Smith Bishop, born 28 Jun 1878 in MO; living in Kansas City in 1920; married Amanda ??? prior to 1905. She was born circa 1875 in MO. She apparently died between 12 Sep. 1918 and 17 Jan. 1920. (We need much more information about Frank and Amanda Bishop and their children, grandchildren, etc.)
i. Kidwell Bishop, born circa 1905 in MO.
ii. Harry Bishop, born circa 1907 in MO.

d. Unknown Bishop, born after 1880 and died prior to 9 Jun. 1900.

7. Hezekiah Bishop was born 9 Mar. 1843 in Fauquier Co. VA. He died 18 Jan. 1928 at Rectortown, Fauquier Co. VA. He is buried in Warrenton Cemetery, Warrenton, Fauquier Co. VA. Hezekiah Bishop was married by J. D. Blackwell on 29 Oct. 1868 to Martha Davis Mountjoy. Her parents were John W. and Eliza Mountjoy. He served in Co. H 6th VA Cavalry 1862-1865 and is said to have rode with Mosby’s Rangers. Hezekiah and Martha had the following children:

a. William Ernest Bishop was born 23 Aug. 1869 in Fauquier Co. VA. He died 5 Feb. 1942 in Fauquier Co. VA and was buried in Warrenton Cemetery next to his father Hezekiah Bishop. He was married to Lena (or Helina) Schwab (b. 1 Jun. 1874 in Fauquier CO. VA, d. 18 Feb. 1949 in Fauquier Co. VA) on 21 Aug 1894 by W.H. Robinson in Fauquier Co. VA. She is buried next to her husband in Warrenton Cemetery. She was the daughter of Anton Schwab and Susan Elizabeth Heflin. They had the following children:
i. Emma Bishop, born 24 May 1907 in Fauquier Co. VA; died 12 May 1944. She married W. B. Tubbs.
ii. Carroll Ernest Bishop, born 16 Nov. 1893 in Fauquier Co. VA; died 25 Jun. 1965. He was a Private in the U.S. Army during WWI. Did he ever marry or have any children?
iii. Linwood Bishop, born 11 Jul. 1897; died 6 Aug. 1912. He never married or had any children.

b. Mary E. Blanche Bishop, born Oct 1874; married Mason H. Putnam (b. Apr. 1864). They lived with her brother William in Warrenton VA in 1900 and he was running a street car in Washington DC in 1910. In 1920, Blanche is a widow. She is alive and living in Warrenton 15 Jul 1924. The couple had three children:
i. Elwood Putnam, born 1900; married Mildred Markley in 1923 and in 1930 they were in Rockville MD living with her widowed mother Mabel. They had no children at that time. He was a lecturer on a sightseeing bus.
ii. Martha Putnam, born in 1910. She is single in Washington DC in 1930.
iii. Frank B. Putnam, born ca. 1914.

c. Clara M. Bishop, was born Jan. 1882;7 married Joseph Addison Weeks (b. 1 Jun. 1878 in Warrenton Fauquier Co. VA; d. 24 Jan 1929 in Warrenton Fauquier Co. VA) on 14 Jun 1905 in Warrenton VA. She was alive and living in Warrenton 15 Jul 1924.
i. William A. Weeks, born circa 1906 in VA.
ii. Alton F. Weeks, born circa 1910 in VA.
iii. Roland D. Weeks, born circa 1915 in VA.
iv. John Turner Weeks, born circa 1919 in VA.

d. Walter Foster Bishop, born 3 (or 5 or 12) Sep. 1884; he was a merchant; he died 27 Jun. 1913 of pulmonary tuberculosis in Fauquier CO. VA. He was buried in Warrenton Cemetery, Warrenton VA on 29 Jun 1913. He married Ethel Suddeth (b. 15 Oct. 1888; d. 1 Aug. 1974). They had one child:
i. Audrey May Bishop, born circa 1913 in Fauquier Co. VA. She was living in Warrenton VA in 1930. Did she ever marry or have any children?

e. Lottie Ashby Bishop, born 2 Jan. 1887 in VA. She married Millard H. Patterson. She was alive and living in Bluemont in 1930. According to SSN information, she died Apr. 1975 in Roanoke VA.
i. Ralph B. Patterson, born circa 1916 in VA.
ii. Lottie M. Patterson, born circa 1921 in VA.
iii. Edna M. Patterson, born circa 1927 in VA.

Any information that you can provide about James Bishop (1801-1864) of Fauquier Co. VA, his wife Mary (Polly) Glascock (1810-1874), and their children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, etc. would be appreciated. Please also provide corrections to any information above that might be inaccurate.
