Thank you for this information. My ggreat grandmother Margaret Ball was a slave on this farm, also my great grandfather Clayton Ball's birth was registered to Margaret slave and John H. Downing owner. Her husband Elias Ball I have been unable to trace until the 1870 Census in Warrenton, Virginia Fauquier County. My grandmother Margaret Jackson b. 1916 remembers her father Clayton but he was died by the time she was eight years old. I have tried to trace any Ball relatiives that maybe in the area to no avail. Clayton had younger siblings but I have been unable to trace their children either.
