I believe this family has a connection through female lines to the Emperor Charlemagne--if you are into that kind of genealogy.

I have no idea if the records left by the Gaines family in Fauquier Co. VA are the same family of that name who inter-married with my McKay and lived in Frederick & Culpeper Co. VA.
