John Smith, Sr. listed in the 1820 census of Warrenton, Fauquier Co. VA shows that he has a son between the age of 26-45, whom we believe to be the James A. Smith we are searching for. James A. Smith was born 4 Dec 1783, according to his burial record in Fulton Co. Illinois. He married ca 1820-22 Miss Elizabeth Dawson, daughter of William Dawson. The Historical & Biographical Record of Fulton Co. IL notes that he was born, farmed and married in Prince William County, VA, and although there are Smith families in that County, we have not been able to tie either James or Elizabeth Dawson to it. There seems to be a better fit with the John Smith and William Dawson of Fauquier Co. James and Elizabeth Smith removed to Coshocton County, OH immediately following their marriage, their oldest child, John Gilbert Smith was born there in 1822, followed by their six other children, all born in Coshocton County. In ca 1839 James, Elizabeth and all children removed to Fulton co. IL where James and Elizabeth died in 1847. Can anyone help me identify the family John Smith, Sr. of Warrenton to see if the James Smith we are seeking is one of his children? Thank you for any assistance. Glenys
