James, a book of Halifax plats was published by Roger C. Dodson. I don’t have any bibliographic data for it, and I don’t know whether it represented copies of plat books in Halifax County or was original work. I have only seen a couple of pages that had the lands of my Turner families. It represents an enormous effort on someone’s part, either way.
I have now seen the Halifax tax lists from 1800 to 1812. I counted pages for the northern and southern lists (after 1800 not designated southern, but named as the list of the man who made it). The northern part consistently has fewer pages, perhaps 70 to 80 percent as many as the southern part. The writing is so different that you would have to count names to get a clearer idea of the number.
What is also consistent is who was on which list over the whole period 1787 to 1812.
