Can someone tell me where to write for a copy of a land sale record, or where I might find that information?
Halifax Deed Book 15, Page 87, March 4, 1791. James Roach of Orange Co. NC to John Talley of H, for 35 pounds, about 150 acres on Arons Creek bounded by John Wade, William Pettye Poole, Robins Branch. Recorded April 25, 1791.
I have a copy of the transaction that is not at all legible.
I am trying to determine if this was my 5th g-grandfather, James Roach. The signature on his will and what I can see of the signature on the land transaction appear to be the same. However, I am not sure if the will and/or the land transaction are originals or clerical copies.
I guess I also need to know how James came to have the property, but I don't have a citation for that.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.
