Emma Burwell lived in the Fennywood and Black Branch Neighborhoods of Chase city Virginia. She worked for my Grandparents Frank and Janie Dagenhart and she deliverd my Uncle Dewey and My Father .She went all the way to scotts crossroads where my Grandparents had moved to deliver my Father Eddie in 1913,That was a long walk even back then.
I believe her father was Wyatt Burwell.
The Dagenhart children called her Aunt Emmer burrels because the could not pronuounce her name. Maybe that was just the Tarheel way to pronounce it?
I would like to find a photograph of Aunt Emma and learn more about this remarkable African American Woman.
She earned enough money as a Washer woman and midwife to send her daughter to school and she became a Teacher.
I would also like to learn where she is buried so i may place a red rose on her grave.
