I am trying to locate any info available on this individual. In the listing of "VA Marriages 1740-1850" there is a listing for a TOLBERT CLAY and NANCY HARRIS with a marriage date of Apr 7, 1805 Mecklenburg Co, VA. I find a TALBERT CLAY on the 1820 Mecklenburg Co., VA census and a TOLBIRD (Ancestry lists it as SLBIRD) CLAY on the 1830 census. I don't find him on the 1840 census. Then I locate a TALBOTT CLAY who purchased land in Greene Co, Ohio in 1847. There is also an Elizabeth Clay that marries a Stith in Greene Co, Ohio in 1840 who was born about 1818 Mecklenburg Co, VA. A MASTIN CLAY lives on the purchased property and pays the taxes 1847-1849/50 and then moves to IL where he is enumerated in Nov. 1850. MASTIN CLAY is my Great-grandfather and my brick wall at present. He said he was born 1810 in VA. I do believe that this Tolbert/Talbert/Tolbird is probably his father and would like to find out more about Tolbert. Thanks in advance for any info submitted.
