I am searching for information on my Great Grandparents, Emory L. Brooks and Martha A. Brooks (maiden name Shelton). My Great Grandfather's family came to Spartanburg, SC from Madison County, NC. I don't know
exactly when they moved to SC. While in Madison County, NC they lived in the community known as Stack House, in Hot Springs in Madison County. They appear on the 1910 census in Madison County census. This census stated that they had nine children, 8 living. As far as I can tell, my
Grandfather was the youngest of 9 or 10 children. According to the census, the older children had been born in Tennessee. I haven't been able to locate any records of them in Tennessee yet, and have been told
that they may have came to Tennessee from Virginia. I've searched through the 1880 Tennessee and census and can find nothing. My Great Grandparents were Emory L. Brooks, born Sep. 22, 1856 , died Feb. 20, 1937 and Martha A. Brooks (maiden name Shelton) born Dec. 11, 1857 , died Mar. 7, 1930. They are both burried in the Philidelphia Baptist Church cemetery in Spartanburg County, SC. Their children are as follows as far as I know ;
Charlie Alexander Brooks, born 11/5/1876, died Nov. 2, 1947 (Burried in
Chapel Hill Cemetery, in NC)
Emiline Brooks, born 11/?/1878
Sarah Elizabeth Brooks, born 9/?/1880
Will Madison Brooks, born 2/28/1890, died Nov. 2, 1927 (Burried in the
Philidelphia Baptist Church cemetery in Spartanburg County, SC)
Lilly Brooks, born 4/12/1889
Z. Vance Brooks, born 3/11/1894, died May 24, 1955 (Burried in the
Philidelphia Baptist Church cemetery in Spartanburg County, SC)
Pleasant Wyatt (or Wyant) Brooks, born ?/?/1893
Cicero (or Cisero) Brooks born 4/12/1881
Mamie Brooks died shortly after or during birth, date unknown.
Hubert Brooks,(my Grandfather) born Apr. 4, 1904 and died in 1987 (Burried in Spartanburg, SC)
I am searching for any information on the parents or possible siblings
on my great Grandparents, Emory L. Brooks and Martha Shelton Brooks. Any additional information that may be connected would be greatly appreciated.
