WILSON's in Kentucky and Missouri 1800's

Can anyone help untangle this web of WILSON'S??

I am tracing two lines LaFon/Wilson and Long/Wilson. The LaFon/Wilson are in Frankfort, KY. The Long/Wilson are in Adair Cnty., MO. Both are around the same time period (early to mid 1800)

According to the Indiana vital static records Nicholas Alexander LaFon married Mary Elizabeth WILSON. This is pretty much a proven fact due to the recorded record. According to the records it happened on: May 26, 1855, in Paoli, Orange County, Indiana.

According to Lizzie D. WILSON (of the Long/Wilson) death certificate her mother's maiden name was WILSON. Also, according to the death certificate for Mary Ann (Lizzie D's mother), her father's name was William WILSON.

As strange as this sounds, am I dealing with TWO Wilson families, or possibly only one??

After checking the 1850 Federal Census records, there was only ONE William WILSON living in Adair County, MO (This is where Mary Ann was born in 1849). The problem is that it lists Mary Ann as 5 years old. (This could have been a mistake????).

Anyway, there are 5 WILSON families living side-by-side in Adair County in 1850. All of the heads of family were born in Kentucky (where Mary Ann records her father as being from). Only one -- a Ellis Wilson, age 55 is showing being born in Virginia. Next door to Ellis is Hugh Wilson, so I found out is his son. This leaves me to further believe all of these Wilson's are somehow related.

Now, for the rest of the possible puzzle. The LaFon/WILSON's are from Kentucky by way of Virginia. The Long/WILSON's are from Kentucky by way of Virginia. What are the odds??? Again, it's too early to tell, but I am beginning to think that I have one WILSON family and not two.

Does anyone have this cross over on the Wilson line?

Thanks,
Jeff Tyler
