I am helping a elderly lady that would like to know her heritage...Carol Warren is researching the following person and this is what she knows That her John W Christian was Born in Febuary 1839 in Richmond Virgina where his father was a Slave..at the outbreak of Cival War his father remained Loyal to his master....This John ran away and managed to get thru the Confederate lines and Join the union as a private in the 13th Connecticut under Colonel Henry C Ward...He was mustered out of service in 1865 after 3 years of service...He was of the colored troops.......He was an active member of the A M E Zion Church...And of the Robert Tyler Post GAR Grand Army of the Republic....He had a brother in Philidelphia (No Name Given at the time of his death).................He also had an Aunt BETTY CHRISTIAN and a niece Mrs Louise Wheldon...He also had a cousin Mrs Morris Mitchell.......... I found in an old Article that there was a John H Christian that was a Butler to President John Tyler and when President John Tyler died he left this Slave John H Christian to a nephew.......... So here are some questions I would like to have answers to 1....Who was the Nephew of President John Tyler that inherited Slave John H Christian anyone have that will?? 2.....Who was John W Christians brother living in Philidelphia at the time of John W Christians death in January 1907 3....is there anyone out there that has this very same line of decent that could help fill in Carols family tree.... 4.... There was a John Wheldon that married Louise Christian that opened the first Colored persons Hotel in Connecticut...anyone related to this family??
