Looking for info on my g-g grandparents. In 1870, Charles and Paulina THOMPSON and five of their children are listed in Amsterdam, Botetourt. They were living next door to an Elijah and Christine Thomas and their son Eligah (Elijah). By 1880, they are in the same area with 8 children, BUT the last name is now THOMAS (which has been the only name we have been familiar with). He was a blacksmith and from family history traveled most of the year in that region of Virginia doing that type of work. Charles was born around 1836 and his wife (Polina Jones) Thomas around the same time. I believe in the 1990s, the family moves north, with Charles and Paulina living in Zanesville, Ohio and the children scattered (save for two) to Columbus, Champaign and Youngstown, Ohio and Pittsburgh, Pa area. Their only grandchild that I have been able to find is nearly 100 and having health issues so she is not able to assist. She remembers her father, William Harvey talking about growing up in the family home at the base of one of the mountain ranges in VA. Their son Robert L. was my great grand and became a respected minister in northeast Oh and Western Pa. I have his brother, Amos' Bible inscribed in 1904. Charles, Jr., died before he was 20 and is buried somewhere in VA. George for the most part stayed near his parents (as did Amos) in Zanesville. The daughters Margaret, Nannie, Lucy and Minnie all married and have been challenging to locate. The youngest son, Matthew settled in Columbus. I really would like to find Charles and Paulina/Polina prior to 1870. Is there anyway that I can trace him through his occupation as a blacksmith? Any info on the daughters and Elijah (brother?) would be appreciated.
